While we may be a world of typing monkeys, I think that the fact that we've all begun to type is a step in the right direction - because only a few years ago, the only monkeys that were able to type were the code monkeys. :)Darren Draperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17578208859042859340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-12141084857080406022007-09-10T20:27:00.000-06:002007-09-10T20:27:00.000-06:00Darren,As one of the books in the rotation right n...Darren,

As one of the books in the rotation right now, Keen's was one of the first in a while to have me writing in the margins like a student in a coffeehouse tearing through Das Kapital.

I, too, had a leaning towards what he was saying about content creation, whether blogs or video or what have you. But each time I thought to myself that he might be right, I remembered that I am a teacher. This is where the future of teaching is, or should I say the present? We are now charged with the unique imperative to teach our students how to create quality content. What's good? What's bad? Why? All good questions that students will need to know how to think through in order to handle the amount of information they will deal with over the course of their lives.

End rant here.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08156784418545421424noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-3697802318812805102007-09-10T19:23:00.000-06:002007-09-10T19:23:00.000-06:00I have also just finished Keen's book and like you...I have also just finished Keen's book and like you I found it rang with truth. But that is what makes it so frightening. He presents one side of the argument so vehemently that you think there can't possibly be another side. It is strange how fear can be catching...

This made me think of an illustration. I moved to New Zealand five years ago from Australia. In NZ there is a lot of talk about all the strange things in Australia that can kill you, spiders, crocodiles and snakes. I lived in Australia for 30 years and was never bothered about snakes but now for some reason the thought of returning to Australia is frightening, I might come across a snake!

There is about the same chance of my meeting a snake in Australia as there is of my children encountering any problems on the Internet. I provide a safe environment and teach them how to use the Internet safely. In the same way we would never walk bare foot through long grass.Jane Nichollshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15185395110248629846noreply@blogger.com
