I've always felt that teachers must be the best salespeople out there because they're forced to do it every day.

Can you imagine a regular, off-the-street car salesman trying to sell pre-algebra to a 14 year old?Darren Draperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17578208859042859340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-5641242069590031172007-04-25T19:57:00.000-06:002007-04-25T19:57:00.000-06:00Thanks for the mention. Teachers have to own this first before we can give it to our students.

Here is something I wrote awhile back on that topic...
http://pedersondesigns.com/2005/10/12/owning-contemporary-literacythe-next-big-conversation/

You know I have often said you cant give away what you do not own. If I do not own a car- I can’t loan or give one to you. If I do not own contemporary literacy- how can I give it to you? Maybe these K-12 teachers feel they do not need it because it was never given to them. If teachers of education do not own it–which seems obvious by the way we structure our classes and our reluctance to embed the concepts we are advocating in our assignments and assessments, then how can we expect to pass it on? How can we expect to give to our preservice students what we do not own and in turn, how can we expect these emergent teachers to think they "have to"?

SherylUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02445760066062855309noreply@blogger.com
