I feel like such a star!

I'm with you, learning about something with no emotion "there is a storm coming, good chance of rain, maybe 60%." is nothing compared to experiencing it though someone else's eyes, which gives it validation and emotion.

What you didn't get to see, or read, was that my dear wife and two of my daughters were driving in the same storm, about 200 yards ahead of me. They were panicked and I was on the phone with them a couple of times as they tried to make it back home.

The other thing you didn't read was the poor guy who was in a topless MG Midget trying to find refuge from the storm. Or the guy on the motorcycle walking his bike off the freeway because the storm was so intense he probably would have been killed if he continued riding in it.

Anyway, Twitter and other SOCNETS can be used for good or bad. Cyber stalking is one of the potentials people have to look out for. With Google indexing all the public conversations from services like Twitter, you just need to be careful what you divulge.

Great post, I think you have made a lot of people think with this one.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-79457447463431879842007-08-04T07:51:00.000-06:002007-08-04T07:51:00.000-06:00Dennis,I've found myself trying to explain the sam...Dennis,

I've found myself trying to explain the same thing to my family! I had to turn off twitter notifications on my phone because the teenagers in the household were complaining ;)

Wired magazine had a great little article about this in last month's issue--trying to define the attraction of twitter, that doesn't really become evident until you use it.

I see my college age son doing similar things with Facebook--following people from all over the world, and reporting to me news as though it is local to him.

Another reason I'm liking twitter--if I am not blogging as much, or busy and don't have time to read all the RSS feeds, I can still glance at my twitter feed, and feel like I'm still "connected" to a community and know what is going on.

Enjoyed your post a lot :) Thanks!Carolyn Footehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07581454611313810543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-62088929911360146312007-08-03T08:02:00.000-06:002007-08-03T08:02:00.000-06:00Darren -- just a quick note to let you know that y...Darren -- just a quick note to let you know that you've been tagged: http://www.ed421.com/?p=329

StephanieAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-8527963693845719282007-07-31T06:22:00.000-06:002007-07-31T06:22:00.000-06:00I keep hearing about the Twitter community and I w...I keep hearing about the Twitter community and I was even a part of it at one point (and still get notifications that I have a new 'follower' to follow my non-existent tweets). The problem is the amount of information. There is already SO much static. I find myself constantly sifting through information in my RSS feeds to find the stuff that is important to me. At this point I have to be convinced it is worth the time I am putting into it. This post has gotten me closer to trying again. I just don't want to hear that someone just got up... I want the good stuff.. the meat! :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-4597688015365152442007-07-31T04:29:00.000-06:002007-07-31T04:29:00.000-06:00He he he! We all start with the "I'm getting up now" "I'm having breakfast now" tweets and then move on (hopefully). It's great for connecting with people too. I know when Lor posts "great conversation at Blogger's Cafe" that I need to get into SL. I also enjoy Steve Dembo's daily "Time to conquer the world" tweets for some insane reason. In a world where your network is becoming increasingly spread out, twitter adds a bit of intimacy.Jane Nichollshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15185395110248629846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-21337661361400952302007-07-30T23:10:00.000-06:002007-07-30T23:10:00.000-06:00GREAT POST and I seriously laughed--out loud when ...GREAT POST and I seriously laughed--out loud when reading it this evening--(btw I found this post via Sue Waters twit list--when trying to figure out who TUNA is) I can see where it can be mistaken for a huge stalk fest...I do find myself explaining my 'friends' to people... However, as you stated so humorously, twitter is about community. In a world where not many folks are using 21st C skills in schools, it is nice to have that community to connect with. Tonight I revised a workshop 2 times based on tweets I received on the topic. I was able to catch a friend in google chat to discuss some revisions we were doing to our wikispaces...I do have to stop myself sometimes from tweeting that I got a great deal at the supermarket...because I can, after all, who cares about the cost of produce in PA...but when looking for people to discuss educational implications of x, y, or z...I can always count on twitter 24/7. Why do we twitter...I think Chris Lehman said it best today We want our kids to have a vision of themselves tomorrow that is greater than the vision they have today Don't be afraid Darren, but after today, I am following you too ;-)Kristin Hokansonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04644948722592900823noreply@blogger.com
