Making a recording available allows parents who can't see the live broadcast to still able to see their students, but it also increases the possibility of unintended viewers.Dennis Gricehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13676015023297235119noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-78244295874799946582008-12-10T09:29:00.000-07:002008-12-10T09:29:00.000-07:00Has there been any updates on this topic Darren?Has there been any updates on this topic Darren?SMeechhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00638316760895718112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-71956093880139261082008-03-07T13:32:00.000-07:002008-03-07T13:32:00.000-07:00I think this whole project is simply amazing!I think this whole project is simply amazing!IMC Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16279699282698965195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-21990684890542139952008-02-27T22:30:00.000-07:002008-02-27T22:30:00.000-07:00Robin, you make a good point also. It has worked very well for us and when parents understand they will be able to see their children and share their classroom projects they are very willing to allow the postings. I would suggest you use a login though, just to be on the safe side because you have no control over who shows up in the ustream. Yes it may be a headache for some to create an account, but not nearly as troublesome as explaining unwanted visitors in your Ustream. With it wide open you open yourself to a situation that may be beyond your control that could tarnish what you are trying so hard to accomplish.

Also Darren I have tagged you for the most recent Meme: Passion Quilt here are the rules.
1. Think about what you are passionate about teaching your students.
2. Post a picture from a source like FlickrCC or Flickr Creative Commons or make/take your own that captures what YOU are most passionate about for kids to learn about…and give your picture a short title.
3. Title your blog post “Meme: Passion Quilt” and link back to this blog entry.
4. I think that probably would ease some minds, but part of what makes it so great is that people don't have to log in or join Ustream to be able to watch it. I think forcing people to log in to watch would cause more problems. You know that some parents would have a hard time logging in and making it to the site in time to see their kids. It is tragic, really, but some people still don't get the whole joining/logging in part of the internet. I have had numerous headaches because of this.jethrojoneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14065159896166632977noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-28765543260370898732008-02-25T14:24:00.000-07:002008-02-25T14:24:00.000-07:00Jen - A separate release form just for this ventur...Jen - A separate release form just for this venture is a good idea - especially if a teacher is getting flack from administrators.

Jethro - The kind words are all deserved. You're doing great things, setting a great example.

Karen - I'm with you: I wish this kind of connectivity were taking place in my kids' classrooms, too. No sense in teaching in the 19th Century anymore.

Brad - Thanks for your response. I think that Ustream is amazing and has tremendous potential for education.

I suppose one thing that might ease the minds of the admins in this case would be to enable a more structured password protection environment - perhaps an "Advanced" section that allows a user to specify exactly which Ustream users can access the channel. That way, Jethro could have his students create accounts and only allow his students access.

This would also require you to limit the number of concurrent connections per user to one.

Is it worth it?Darren Draperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17578208859042859340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-73571459099389666062008-02-24T16:04:00.000-07:002008-02-24T16:04:00.000-07:00Two wows!1. If there is anything specific we can help with please let us know.

Certainly the new capabilities of our technology warrant much discussion, especially when it involves our children. The amount of educational material, events, and uses over the last few months have greatly increased on our site. This is very exciting for us.

We are committed to helping where we can and listening closely.

Best Regards,

Brad Hunstable
support@ustream.tvAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1293651735518246988.post-11384845611070597642008-02-22T20:42:00.000-07:002008-02-22T20:42:00.000-07:00Thanks for the kind words Darren.
